Mockingbird

Day 3 — Your parents

I'm sitting in the intimately lit corner of my study in what I currently call my house - in the house my parents so amazingly got for me - and the first thing I can think of saying is how grateful I am. I don't mean to be boastful, but when I look back on the kind of childhood and upbringing I've had over the past 18 years, I can't help but feel so extra lucky to have been given my parents.
Yeah, it's shit sometimes. You know, in that sadistic way that now as I'm approaching adulthood I realise I really can't blame them for anything. I'm being honest here, every downfall I face is completely on me. When I was younger I'd yell at them about how everything that went wrong to me was their fault, and would harass them about how much they nagged and how embarrassing they were. I was wrong. Sure, they were overbearing at times, but I was stubborn and conceited and should have just listened.
The beautiful thing is these days I feel they know I've realised that. And now it's just scary because they see me as a woman and they want me to be great, and I'm not quite sure if I know how to do that on my own.
